Don't Mess

I couldn't help myself. Turns out it doesn't fit under the screen door which is why it sits in the middle of the porch. I think it's fitting this way.

Cake

This is a mocha torte which is the best cake in the world. Light springy sponge cake, hint of coffee flavor, whipped cream icing. This one is organic, no butter...I could gobble the entire thing in one sitting.

Unthirsty

I am on lookout for plants needing little water. I would like a variety and not just succulents, though I thought this grouping was particularly lush and pretty and sculptural.

I don't think I've ever seen the one with the tiny florets along the leaves. Pretty.

Molded

These are molds for large machinery parts - oil wells, I think. My brain is a sieve for such details. They were priced at $5, $8, $12, $20 each but the guy was wheeling and dealing so I bought a bunch of them. Now, what to do with them. I have a vision for a certain little boys' room I'm working on. Though there's also a spot for them in this house. Time will tell - stay tuned.

A Piece of Hollywood

 - here in Austin. From a Hollywood Video sign. It makes me smile.

Sad/Happy

These chairs have been sad for years - I could never pull the trigger on fabric.

I loved the enormous repeat, so that each chair is different while maintaining continuity. And then the price sealed the deal - $8.99/yard.

Foiled

I love these.

The only trouble is I'm pretty sure I know where this seller got them - from the "Industrial Light Guy". And I'm pretty sure they got them just minutes before I got there. So now, if I want them, I gotta pay more. Curses! But it might be worth it. They are awesome vintage industrial lights. And three of them! Amazing. Early bird gets the worm.

Gecko

I'm not sure how I feel about this.

Wilderness

This is the next big project to tackle. Though I am loving my own private wild flower meadow. And it makes me feel rugged to have to put on my boots to trek outside into the wild (snakes and countless critters). And I love my boots!

Before and After

(Yes, going for the extra drama with a McDonald's cup (not mine!) and trash in the "before" shot...)

The challenge was to take a modest kitchen and with absolute minimal $ turn it into something fresh and sweet and highly functional. We would have done pretty much everything differently had we designed it from scratch, but it's amazing what a little paint, simple demo and colorful details can do to transform a space.

I'm particularly happy with how the shelves came out. Turns out the simpler the shelves look, the bigger the engineering feat. But they look great and are rock solid sturdy.

Fashion Plate

An enviable swimsuit collection - excerpted from a very fashionable 10 month old's closet. The tiny bikini top KILLS me!

Torchy's

Everyone from Austin knows about the tacos here, but since most everyone reading this blog (so far at least) is not from Austin, they are worth mentioning.

I've never even tried the other trailers though I'm sure they're all great. I go straight to Torchy's.

It's open year round but to me the experience screams summertime.

I'd probably go there just to enjoy the crazy logo, even if the tacos weren't so "damn good"!

In!

It's been a big move week, a late-breaking decision and I'm thrilled to have the most grueling part over with. Still in the throes of unpacking, nothing on the walls yet - little by little.
